The fertility work nobody tells you to start early

Why hormone work IS fertility work

Hi Reader

We need to clear this up...

The idea that "fertility work" and "hormone work" are two different things, and that fertility work only starts once you're actively trying to conceive.

They are the same work. Fertility isn't a separate system that switches on when you decide you're ready - it's downstream of the same hormone regulation, blood sugar balance, nervous system state, and nutrient status. By the time someone is "trying," their hormones have either been supported for a while, or they haven't - there's no fast separate track for fertility that bypasses the rest of it.

Here's the timing piece that I think gets missed most often: the egg that ovulates in any given cycle didn't just appear that month. The window in which an egg develops and matures runs for roughly three months before ovulation - this three-month figure is a commonly cited estimate in reproductive biology, not an exact number for every person, but it's a useful rule of thumb. Sperm follow a similar few-month development window. That means the conditions in your body three-plus months before you start trying are already shaping the egg (and, for partners, the sperm) that's involved when you do.

That's also why standard preconception guidance - like starting prenatal vitamins and folate before you're actively trying, not after a positive test - exists. It's well-established that the early window matters more than people expect.

So if you're waiting to "do the fertility stuff" until you're ready to start trying, you may be starting the clock later than the biology actually allows for. Working on your cycle regularity, stress load, blood sugar, and nutrient status now - even if pregnancy is six months or a year off - isn't jumping the gun. It's using the runway you actually have!

And it's not just about getting pregnant. It's about staying pregnant, with a healthy baby, having an easier pregnancy, and a smooth post-partum. The state that your body is in BEFORE you get pregnant is what dictates this.

This is exactly the kind of timing question that's easiest to talk through in a real conversation rather than an email.

If you're thinking about trying in the next year (or even just curious where you stand), book a Discovery Call here and we can map out what makes sense for your specific timeline.

LOVE YOU,

The perfectionist pattern I see again and again Hi Reader Let me preface this email by saying that what I'm about to talk abiout is not about blame and its not about fault, it's about identifying patterns that may seem to be separate from health but are in fact affecting your hormones and fertility every single day. This is the pattern I've seen working with hundreds of client over the years: A lot of the women who come to me are high-achieving, type-A, used to solving problems through...

What wedding planning is teaching me about my own hormones Hi Reader Happy Monday! We're getting a lil vulnerable here! I am in the THICK of planning my wedding and as fun as it CAN be, I'm definitely relearning how to take care of my own stress hormones. It's forcing me to actually use the tools I give my clients on myself, in real time. As a PCOS girly, my body is very sensitive to stress and I've been noticing my own cycle shift, my sleep getting worse, my motivation to cook a real meal...
